Providing maximum security for your credentials
The integration of fingerprint readers in mobile devices such as laptops and smart phones is designed to increase the data security and prevent other users from accessing restricted resources. The main advantage of the fingerprint is that it cannot be guessed, broken or imitated by other persons. Although the spy movie fans can argue that it is not impossible to break, the fingerprint is sure to be more secure than a regular password.
Log in using your fingerprint
Although it is used more frequently on company laptops, this technology became less expensive and is also available for home users. If you have purchased a device that has a fingerprint recognition system its usage can be extended beyond authenticating yourself when logging on.

During the installation, the program adds browser plug-ins on popular Internet browsers such as Chrome or Firefox which enables you to easily launch a website by swiping your finger on the reader. I can’t find the fingerprint access option. Can you provide some info?
Yes, the application works on Windows 8.1, but you will need versions compatible with it and a True API x64 package that needs to be installed in order to use it. Also, the software is not fully function, but it supports fingerprint log-in and other features already described.

I have had SimplePass 2011 and used it successfully from the beginning, until this year it started populating site addresses I’ve never visited with unknown email addresses as the passwords, and not allowing me to update passwords while logging in to some sites. I have given up on trying to continue with it, and have been allowing browsers to store passwords. That’s a security risk when more than one user enters a site to which I have a password. (That user is a nuisance!) I have downloaded SimplePass for Windows 7. It’s sitting in the Download folder until I know whether I should uninstall the existing app myself? Or will running the download automatically uninstall the previous app?
Theoretically, there is no need to uninstall the application in order to re-install it since most apps will do that when you launch the main installer. However, to have a better functionality, I recommend backing up the contents and then re-install the application just to be sure you’re using something fresh without bugs and errors.
Secondly, I would like to recommend another service that I have been using it for years. It’s called LastPass and it’s available for every platform you could think of.
How can I get Firefox 38.0.5 to work with HP Simple Pass on my HP Envy Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit laptop?
HP SimplePass is known to have issue even with older Firefox versions. The latest one won’t work no matter the tweak applied. I have tried finding a solution, but there isn’t one available. However, I wouldn’t advise using it anymore. Instead, pick a solution that’s adapted to modern browsers with security enhanced and additional protection techniques.

HP SimplePass requires me to reconfirm my Windows password before I can get access to my laptop. I cannot remember this password. Where will I find this or reset it?
HP have recommended two ways to deal with this:
I believe you will have to use the first option since you don’t have access to the system to tweak the settings.
- Perform a system recovery. If you didn’t touch the Recovery partition or application, then you might have a way to use the last known password.
- Use the Support page to diagnose the Biometric device: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-dv6-Notebook-PC-series/5296055/model/5316900/document/c03718240
Go to programs and open hp simple pass app and select forget password it will ask security question set by user(you), answer it then create a new one.
Go to device manager (or) control panel and uninstall program from programs and features
and reinstall it.
I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro and now HP SimplePass fingerprint reader is not working. How to fix this problem?
You need to identify your laptop model and use it on the HP Support website. Input the exact model (remove the battery to find the exact model) then select Windows 8 as operating system and you will have the possibility to download an updated HP SimplePass application you can use in Windows 8.
